PPJ recently had the opportunity to stay at the Peñasco Del Sol Hotel. We had rented out our condo at Las Palomas, but had business in Rocky Point. Since we waited until the last minute on a June weekend, in high season, the options were limited. We were able to get a room at the Peñasco del Sol hotel, thru Trip Advisor via Expedia.com. We had no idea what to expect since we have always stayed at Las Palomas. But, PPJ is always up for an adventure and new experience, so we were excited to have had this somewhat forced vacation from our vacation, LOL.
- Beautiful Lobby when you walk in
- Check In/Out desk at the hotel
- Convenience store in lobby
The lobby of Peñasco Del Sol is clean, modern, and beautiful. Check in was easy. We got room 532, which is a pool view, deluxe room with 2 queen beds and a small balcony. The room is clean and comfortable. The view is awesome! Although it is called a pool view, as you can see by the photos, we have a fabulous ocean view too.
- Our room: basic, nice, and clean ~ with Great Views!
- View of ocean from our room
- View from our room of the main pool
Miguel’s is the onsite restaurant and also offers room service. The menu is varied and extensive, serving breakfast to dinner, open from 7am to 11pm. We of course needed to try the restaurant for investigation purposes… we ventured out at around 9pm for a late light dinner. To our disappointment, the menu at the restaurant was not as extensive as the room service menu. However, it was the same kitchen, so when we asked, we were able to order off the room service menu, as long as we knew what we wanted. I knew! I wanted to try the shrimp quesadillas. The photos I took do not do it justice. They were very good, and I was a very happy girl!

After dinner, I was exhausted from a full day of showing condos. The bed was very firm, a plus for me, not so much for Kyle. I was very comfortable and fell asleep in short order. So, I was very happy with the beds, however, when I say they were very firm, I am not exaggerating. Kyle said it felt like sleeping on a board. It’s better for your back is my response. Also the AC worked great, very cold, which if you have been to RP in the summer, this is very important. We didn’t get a chance to use the pool, but they looked great. There was a main pool, hot tub, and also a separate pool with a swim up bar. The hotel also provides shaded cabanas at the pool and on the beach for a nominal fee.
- Selfie!
- Sunset view from our room, WOW!
- Love the condo lights down the beach.
In the morning, I ventured down to the restaurant in search of café con leche. To my pleasant surprise, they had a fresh carafe of coffee and crema ready for the guests (gratis). Coffee is my thing in the morning, so yeah, happy again. The shower was good, a little tricky to figure out to get hot water. The hair dryer was powerful, much better than the one I have at home (it’s the little things for us gals). There is also a little convenience store in the lobby, where you can get sodas, snacks, and sundries.
- Cabanas at the pool
- Swim up pool bar
- A cool view from the walkway
Overall, we were very happy with our stay. The only real drawback to staying here is the parking. They have about 20 parking spaces onsite for the hotel, so we had to park at the end of the street in a dirt lot, not so great, but they did have a shuttle to take you back to the hotel. Our tip would be to park in the check in area, check in, get your bags to the room, and then go in search of parking.
- Private Beach with Palapas
- View of hotel from the beach
- Beach vendor “shopping mall” at the end of Sandy Beach
The Peñasco del Sol hotel is also convenient, you are right across the street from some popular restaurants and bars and walking distance to shopping. Overall a great experience and we would recommend staying here.
Happy Traveling!
